| The diversity and allurement of
this island of sun, sea, sove and beauty - the Island of Rab - are
its numerous coves with beaches of sand, pebbles and rock, luxuriant
vegetation, plentiful fauna and colorful submarine world, its massifs
with wellattended promenades, as well as the surrounding islets and
small rocky islands. |

| The Town of Rab is a place that makes every
chance traveler carry back in his or her memory a picture of a town
that has preserved its historical and cultural heritage within the
town's walls, medieval buildings and in the hearts of its proud inhabitants. |

The island is one of the most densely wooded islands in the Adriatic and is a veritable botanical exhibition, with plants not native to the island. The Komrcar park, with its laurel, poplar, cypress, Indian fig-tree, rosemary, pine and hundred-year-old agave is now the pride of Rab. Its more than 300 freshwater springs provide a valuable water supply to the population of the island--which, in contrast to most of the Adriatic islands, is increasing, in part because of good communications with the mainland. Because of these numerous springs, Rab is considered to be the greenest island in the Adriatic. Rab belongs to the group of Kvarner Archipelago Islands of the North Adriatic. Its winters are pleasant and mild, and the summers warm, with about 2500 hours of sunshine a year. The mean air temperature is 26C in the summer and 10 C in the winter. The Kamenjak range (408m) protects the greater part of the island from cold north-eastern winds (bora or bura), and the temperature hardly ever drops below zero (centigrade). In the summer the mistral wind has a cooling effect on the the island.
ISLAND RAB CROATIA
The town of Rab also boasts a long recorded history that dates back to the year
10 BC, when it is mentioned in an old Roman document by which the Roman emperor
Octavian Augustus proclaims it a muncipium and grants it independence.

Before long it was given another rare honorary title,
that of FELIX (happy); it bears witness to the fact that Rab was already
a fully developed and civilised at the time, providing amenities such
as running water, baths, temples, a theatre, and a network of streets,
to mention just a few.
More than 17 centuries ago a boy by the name Marin was born at Lopar.
He later learned the craft of stonemason and in search of a job left
his home, crossed the Adriatic Sea and landed at a place near today’s
Rimini on the Apennine peninsula.
His diligence and virtue soon earned him the sympathy of the Christian
community he was living in, so eventually bishop Gaudentium made him
his deacon. Presecuted because of his propogation of Christianity, Marin
fled to the hardly accessible hill Titan and built a small church there.
It was to become the foundation of a new city and state – San Marino – in
which the remains of the saint are still kept.
